Curfew imposed, internet blocked, Amarnath yatra suspended

Srinagar: Curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in all sensitive areas of the Kashmir Valley to prevent protests in wake of killing of Burhan Wani.

“Restrictions would be imposed in entire South Kashmir, parts of Srinagar and North Kashmir,” a government official said here late on Friday.

Following the unrest that followed after the killing, mobile internet services have been suspended across Kashmir. The ongoing Amarnath yatra has also been suspended till further orders.

According to the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Muneer-ul-Islam strict curfew would be imposed in Pulwama.

Meanwhile, authorities on Friday placed several Hurriyat leaders under house arrest to prevent them from leading rallies against the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.

“Besides continuous house imprisonment of Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani and Hurriyat Secretary General Shabir Ahmad Shah, the authorities placed other Hurriyat leaders Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah under house arrest.
