Why is Muslim world blowing apart?

Day in and day out we are bombarded with shocking stories about the utter disregard for human life. Media, whatever form it may be in, is full of stories like ‘hundreds of people killed in Iraq’ or ‘hundreds killed in a suicide bomb attack’ or even ‘kids killed in Palestine by Israeli air strikes’. We have destructive wars going on in Yemen and Syria. We have uprisings in Myanmar, rebellion in Egypt, killings in Afghanistan and now a terrorist strike in Afghanistan. What is surprising and utterly shocking is that all of these countries in which people are being slaughtered are Muslim countries. Why is it so? Is it because the Muslim Ummah is losing its credibility? 

With direct or indirect involvement of Western powers, Muslims are waging war against each other. We are shedding blood of our own brethren to please the so called super powers. Our religion teaches unity. It advises all Muslims to live in harmony and as one but sadly instead of staying united, Muslims are busy fighting over petty issues. Sectarian divide has torn our mutual cooperation to shreds. We are so blinded by our version of faith that we can’t bear to be called simply as Muslims. We prefer to be called as Sunnis, Shias, Ahl-hadees, Wahhabis and Barelvis. 

People who believe that these sects are divine are absolutely wrong. Islam is a divine religion and these sects are just a creation of man. No doubt that we may differ in terms of secondary beliefs but our fundamental beliefs are the same. So, why should we hatch conspiracies against each other? It is these very conspiracies that have rendered Muslims across the world homeless. It is these conspiracies that force us to knock at the doors of European countries for food and shelter. We are gradually giving up and letting the west take over everything we own. Our resource rich lands are gradually being seized by powers which know nothing about humanity, powers that only seek to destroy. 

Iran and Saudi Arabia were supposed to be the guardians of the Muslim empire. Muslims had faith that in case of any threat of external aggression, these two countries would always come to their rescue. Sadly, these both these once powerful countries have locked horns with each other. They have exposed the Muslim communities to grave danger. We call ourselves a religious community who always stand by each other yet, how many of our leaders can we see speaking against the atrocities being inflicted on Palestinians? How many Muslim countries spoke against the heinous killing of Colonel Gaddafi or Yasir Arafat or Al-Nimr? Bangladesh is going for total annihilation of all their Jamaat leaders, as we speak. But how many of us even acknowledge it? This cold war is allowing people to embarrass the religion of Islam.  We are being labelled as terrorist and trouble mongers, the very terms our religion teaches us to denounce.

Muslims are being robbed culturally and intellectually. The kinds of Ibn Sinas and Ibn Khaldoons are being silenced ruthlessly. Our leaders are all dancing to the tunes of the West. Why can’t they try to be more like Umar (R.A) or Ali (R.A), who trampled their own interests for the interests of the public? They worked selflessly and tirelessly to protect Islam from any external aggression but we are slowly killing the very religion they fought for. But, all is not lost. The signs of brilliance, bravery, love and light continue to reside in our heart. Let us join hands and free ourselves from all violent passions and evil affections and show the world the true meaning of Islam.
