Share

SRINAGAR: Strongly condemning the arrest of Irshad Ahmad Lone son of Khazir Mohammad Lone of Tujar Sharif Sopore, Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani demanded his immediate release.

He said that the police had detained dozens of youths and students from Tujar Sharif, Mandji, Bomai and other adjoining areas who include Showkat Ahmad Lone, Ikhlaq Ahmad Sheikh, Javaid Ahmad Chopan, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Wadood, Mohammad Sayed Parray, Showkat Ahmad Bhat Mandji, Tanveer Qadri Mandji, Abdul Qayoom Ganai Nadihal, Tanveer Ahmad Malla and Riyaz Ahmad.

In a statement issued to KNS, Syed Ali Geelani while demanding release of these youths and all other political prisoners before the Eid, said that the police had intensified the atrocities against the Kashmiri people in every nock and corner of the state in this holy month of Ramadan and have made the lives of the people a hell. Some people complained to me that the police is deliberately doing this in the view of Eid so that the police officers could demand hefty sums in the name of ‘Eidi’ against the release of the youths.

Syed Ali Geelani said that the Kashmir police is not only at war with their own people but this department has become a corrupt institution from top to bottom. It has taken the shape of organized corruption mafia and every police station has appointed two to four brokers who play a mediators role between the police and the public and who negotiate the deals.

Syed Ali Geelani said that this corruption has rusted the abilities of police to deliver their professional duties and instead of protecting the lives, property and honour of the people, they have become headache for the public.

Hurriyat (G) chairman said that the cruel attitude of the police has spread wave of harassment and threat amoung the people and they hate this department the most.

Syed Ali Geelani also demanded the release of the pro-freedom leaders Masarat Alam Bhat, Ameer Hamza Shah, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo, Nasir Abdullah, Mohammad Amin Parray, Hakeem Showkat Ahmad, Abdul Hameed Parray, Assadullah Parray, Mehraj-ud-din Nanda and Zubair Ahmad Turray before the Eid and said that the continuous imprisonment of the pr-freedom leaders has no constitutional or legal justification. It is clearly an act of state terrorism. (KNS)
