Geelani demands demilitarization of civil localities

SRINAGAR: While strongly condemning the breaking and thrashing of houses and vehicles and use of violence by the Indian army against the local people of Kulpora Village of Kulgam district at the behest of any non-local person, Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani demanded demilitarization of the civil localities and removal of the forces camps.

He said that the unarmed and innocent people of Jammu & Kashmir are living on the mercy of Indian armed forces and nobody cares for them. Mehbooba Mufti and her other pro-Indian colleagues never open their mouth over this issue but whenever any gunfight took place, they suddenly start to remember the Islam and accuse the pro-freedom people for that. On the direction of Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat Deputy Secretary General Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji today visited Kulpora Kulgam where he took stock of the brutal action of the Indian army against the local people and also collected details of the incident.

According to the Sumji a non-local person who is living in the area from last couple of years has been found to be very indecent person and his activities are very suspicious. When the local people objected his immoral practices, he directly went to local army camp and complained about the people.

Sumji said that the army personals without any investigation or enquiring about their jurisdiction immediately attacked the Kulpora village and beat-up the unarmed villagers, broke the windowpanes of the houses and even Masajids and damaged dozens of public vehicles and other property worth lakhs of rupees. According to the local people the said non-local person has been actually planted by the army in the locality. After listening to the details from the Sumji, Geelani in a statement issued to KNS, said that there are more than a thousand forces camps present in the civil populations and the presence of the Indian army has become a hell for the local people. Their lives, property and honour is not safe at the hands of the Indian army. The presence of Indian armed forces in the civil areas not only has psychological impact over the people but their social setup is also becomes a victim to it.

He said that the forces camps in the villages and civil areas are also acting as the sale points for the liquor and other dangerous drugs and these products are being supplied in the localities under a well thought-out plan. The liquor is also an important source for creation of informers (source) for the army and they are involving teenagers in this trade.

Syed Ali Geelani said that the Kulpora incident is one more warning for the Kashmiris that the non-locals who came here to earn the livelihood, can anytime create a major problem here with the backing of Indian army and their presence can prove very dangerous for the local people.

Hurriyat (G) chairman while criticizing the Mehbooba Mufti said that she is always seen passing judgments on the pro-freedom people but after grabbing the chair of power she had never commented over the oppression and atrocities of Indian army against the Kashmiri people.

While reiterating his demand for removal of forces camps from the civil areas in the state, Geelani said that the presence of armed forces camps in the civil populations is a clear violation of the international laws and it has no moral or constitutional justification. (KNS)
