Srinagar: The family of a Kupwara labour who allegedly lost his life in police custody Saturday appealed Chief Minister to take the killer cops to task and deliver justice to the widow and little children of the slain man.
Nazir Ahmad Mughal, 47, a resident of Gujjarpati Zurhama area of frontier district Kupwara, was lodged at the Zurhama police post in February last year. He was found dead under mysterious circumstances at District Hospital, Kupwara. The locals and the family accused police of killing Nazir in custody and after the hue and cry and continuous protest staged by them, the government suspended three policemen, including the in charge of the Zurhama police post.
The family members of the slain youth who appeared in Press Enclave here said that even after the expiry of over an year, the probe report was not made public. Yasmeena Akhtar the wife of the slain man claimed that her husband was tortured to death by policemen at Zurhama chowki. The suspension of guilty cops who gave third degree to my husband was an eye wash. We have come to know that they have been reinstated while probe report has been shelved, she said and appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to look into the matter.
When contacted a police official said that they are waiting for the probe report. Once the inquiry officer submits his report, action will be taken accordingly, he said.
