SRINAGR: In the wake of sudden surge in militancy-related violence, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived here on Friday afternoon on a two-day visit to the valley to chair a security review meeting.
The minister will chair a security review meeting of senior officials of state and central intelligence agencies and security forces at the Raj Bhawan on Friday evening.
All officials who are part of the unified headquarters will be present during the meeting, sources in the state government said.
The unified headquarters is the apex security grid in the state formed to create synergy among various intelligence agencies and security forces engaged in anti-militancy operations.
The home minister will also visit the Amarnath Cave Shrine on Saturday as the Yatra will commence from July 2.
A three-member team of the ministry was camped in Srinagar for three days this week to submit a report to the minister on the Pampore shootout in which eight CRPF troopers were killed and 22 others injured.
Rajnath Singhs visit to the Valley is focused on the overall security situation in the state, particularly the arrangements made for the safety of Amarnath pilgrims.
Militants have carried out at least two deadly attacks on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway during the last one month in which 12 paramilitary troopers were killed and around 30 others have been injured.
The highway is the only road link used by thousands of Amarnath-bound pilgrims each year during the annual Yatra.
