Muslims Remember Masjid Al-Aqsa On Last Friday Of Ramazan

SRINAGAR: Kashmiri Muslims joined their brethren in faith elsewhere to mark the last Friday of Ramazan (Juma-tul-Vida) as “Yaum-al-Quds” to stress for the liberation of Masjid-al-Aqsa, the first Qibla of Muslims which remains under occupation of Zionist entity of Israel since 1967. 

Hundreds of thousands joined congregational prayers in mosques and Khanqah’s across Kashmir where speakers called for an end to the occupation of the holy land.

This year call for the observance of Al-Quds Day was jointly given by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, heads of their factions of Hurriyat Conferences and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik.    

Mirwaiz led a mammoth demonstration in Srinagar but Geelani was not allowed by police to move out of his house where he remains confined for last one year.  Resolutions supporting the right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir and Palestine were passed in many mosques.

The resolutions urged the international community to address the issue in the interest of peace in the world. As the occupation of Palestine, the holy land, is far from over and Arabs are falling in line to accept it as reality, significance of Quds day has only increased” speakers stressed.

At dozens of places demonstrators set ablaze Israeli flags.  

In Srinagar Israeli flags were torched at Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Alamgari Bazar and Kak Sarai.

JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, addressed a huge gathering in Charar-e-Sharief and called upon the world community “to break its silence over lingering Kashmir and Palestinian questions.

Senior separatist leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah, was under house arrest and was not allowed to offer Friday prayers.

Democratic Political Movement Chairman Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi also addressed a gathering at Hazratbal urging upon international community to take note of human rights violations committed by India in Kashmir and Israel in Palestine. 

Moulvi Masroor Abbas Ansari led an anti-Israeli march from Sajjadabad Chattabal which culminated at Kak Sarai. 

Similar demonstration was held at Hassanabad, Srinagar and in Budgam by Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan.
