Mir Faces Mehbooba’s Ire On Raising ‘Petty’ Issues

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti Thursday lashed at her own legislator Javid Mustafa Mir, MLA Chadoora, for repeatedly raising in the House issue of trivial nature apparently referring to the suicide bid by an IAS officer.

She said the lawmakers should discuss more pressing issues like drug addiction than poking nose into the personal lives of the officers.

She subtly reprimanded the lawmakers and instructed them to maintain ‘distance between their private and public lives’.

“Don’t get into the private lives of public servants,” she said. “Have some control on your nerves.”

Pertinently, an IAS officer had attempted suicide recently and PDP’s Javaid Mustafa Mir raised the issue in the House seeking investigation. Even deputy speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, on Wednesday had asked the government to submit action-taken-report by Thursday.

After Mehbooba concluded her speech, an angry Mir rose from his seat to make his point, however, Mehbooba intervened and forced the Speaker to wind up the proceedings. Embarrassed, Mir left the House fuming as the Speaker called it a day.
