Srinagar: Large number of faculty and other employees of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical sciences (SKIMS) Soura Wednesday sent a signed petition to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti urging her to appoint Director of tertiary care hospital SKIMS on merit basis to ensure streamlining of SKIMS Soura which has been on print media for many regularities.
The petition a copy of which lies with KNS reads: The faculty and the staff of SKIMS got a new lease of life once selection process of appointment of new director was initiated to ensure that SKIMS gets a competent, meritorious director. The highly reputed members of selection committee constituted by the government have completed the process long back. But surprisingly nothing has come out and this delay could affect the patient care.
Under your dynamic, sincere, honest and able government it is not expected that government would give heed to frivolous complaints of character assassination etc against competent, meritorious and honest candidates by a handful of faculty members with vested interests involved in private practice, it reads.
Since the government has shown that institutions will be headed by meritorious persons without political interference, it is testing time whether merit will prevail over rumours, mischief and intrigues while making appointment of director SKIMS, it added.
The signatories include faculty members and other employees from several departments of the SKIMS.
Experts believe that it is humanly difficult for the care taker director appointed by the government to look after the affairs of a tertiary care hospital as he is already over burdened with the work of States health department. (KNS)
