SRINAGAR: A family in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Wednesday accused a local Sarpanch of “murdering” their son who has allegedly died under mysterious circumstances.

Qayoom Khan, son of Dilawar Khan, resident of Hyhama, Kupwara, has allegedly died suspiciously on Tuesday.

Khan’s wife, Naseema said that her husband was called by local Sarpanch Bashir Ahmad Khan, son of Ab Majeed Khan to his home.

“He went to his home, but did not come back,” Naseema said.

Khan’s brother, Muhammad Ashraf Khan said that they were called by a person from some unknown number, who informed them Khan was being treated in Kupwara hospital.

“When we reached the hospital, there was no one. We tried to call the number, but it was switched off,” he said.

He said that in the morning, Qayoom’s corpse was brought home and his “body had visible injury marks”.

“Those who brought his body said that he was treated in SKIMS Soura,” he said.

SSP Kupwara, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat told KNS that FIR/ 174 has been registered into the case and inquest proceedings have been started.
