Srinagar: Both the ruling and opposition lawmakers on Wednesday accused Govt of hushing up the suicide attempt case of an IAS officer in Baramulla district and demanded that a detailed reported on the case be presented in the house.
The issue was first raised by PDP MLA, Javid Mustafa Mir who was supported by BJP and NC legislators who demanded police to register an FIR in the case.
Last week, according to reports, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Ms Yasha Mudgal was found in a bloodied state with slashed wrists minutes after another IAS officer, who is in-charge of the education department, visited her residence. She was rushed to a hospital where her life was saved by timely intervention of doctors.
Taking a dig at the Govt. Mir said, I want to know why Govt. is shielding the IAS officer?
All the legislators are concerned about the incident, he said
If this House has any value and sanctity left, then FIR should be filed as soon as possible. If there wasnt any attempt of suicide, why was then an IAS officer shifted out. It means there was some problem then why is not any action being taken against another IAS officer?Javaid said.
Government on Sunday transferred Ms Mudgal to New Delhi as additional resident commissioner after Mir informed the LA that she had “attempted suicide.” The deputy speaker asked the government that it shouldn’t post any such officer at any sensitive post.
Lashing out at the police the legislator said, Why police didnt take a suo motto cognizance of the matter and registered an FIR under section 109 of RPC. Is the law made only for the common people Mir questioned.
I have learned many things, when a FIR was slapped on me, law taught me a lesson, he disclosed.
His argument was supported by other lawmakers, including BJPs Sat Paul Sharma who also demanded an FIR in the case.
Following the uproar, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Nazir Gurezi directed the government to present detailed report about action taken against the IAS officer linked to the suicide attempt on Thursday.
According to reports, the IAS officer left the official residence of Ms Mudgal minutes ahead of her reported attempt to end her life on June 17 by slashing her wrists.
Mir asserted that it would be appropriate to free the sensitive department from people who are involved in scandalous matters.
SSP Baramulla Imitayaz Hussain told Kashmir Observer that there was no complaint filed against the officer. How we can register an FIR since there is no complaint against anyone, we have not filed any case”, the officer said.
