Mian Altaf, Drabu Fight It Over ‘Locals Vs Non-Locals’

Share

SRINAGAR: National Conference lawmaker, Mian Altaf and Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu Tuesday entered into a scuffle during the discussions regarding the construction of ‘Z Morh’ tunnel in Kangan.

Altaf argued why the locals were not engaged in the project when the government was claiming ‘it’s creating jobs by way of developmental projects.

“We do wish to engage local contractors but then the issue of Jammu Vs Kashmir is being raked afterwards,” Dr Drabu replied to the House.

This infuriated Mian Altaf who didn’t allow Dr Drabu to speak. “Why wouldn’t we say so if our own people are ignored,” Altaf replied.

An angered Dr Drabu retorted: “Yeh kya bakwas hai (What the hell are you saying?”

At this point, Congress joined the NC and targeted the Finance Minister prompting the Social Welfare Minister, Sajjad lone to yell out to the opposition “behave properly and in parliamentary manner”.

“Mr Lone don’t overreact,” NC’s Ali Mohammad Sagar replied.

“There is a difference between shouting and parliamentary language,” Lone told the House.

“You don’t know me,” Altaf roared pointing towards the Finance Minister: “I have seen people more powerful than you.”

“Let us not get into shouting,” Dr Drabu responded. “Let us discuss business and the issues here.”

Later, NC and Congress members staged walk out from the House.
