SRINAGAR:- Minister for R&B, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri today informed the House that Government would explore the possibility of setting up of a cold storage in Pulwama Fruit Mandi under PPP mode as soon as the additional land for the purpose becomes available.
Replying to a question by Mr. Mohammad Khalil Band, the Minister said that in this regard an area of 50 kanals and 4 marlas of land is under process of acquisition.
The Minister said that the acquisition process got stalled because some land owners have filed writ petition in High Court and the matter is sub-judice. He said that the matter would be taken up with Advocate General for early decision of the Court.
The Minister said that Pulwama is hub of horticulture and Government has already identified land for expansion of Fruit Mandi which costs Rs. 6.50 crore. He said in this regard Rs. 2.50 crore have been already released for acquiring of land adding that funds in this regard are not any issue. Once the Court gives its decision the whole land would be acquired, he added.
The Minister said that to upgrade the different infrastructure facilities Rs. 4.47 crore were expended upto last financial year in Fruit Mandi Pulwama.
In response to the supplementaries, the Minister said that Fruit Mandis Sopore and Parimpora would be macadamized this year. He said shop sites have been already allotted to the Fruit Growers and Traders at Zazna Ganderbal Fruit Mandi. He said efforts would be made to complete the works of the Mandi at the earliest. He said Government would develop fruit mandi at Bhaderwah if the land was available.
