Govt should allocate more funds for sports activities

J & K Hockey Association deserves praise for organizing an event on International Olympic Day at Polo Ground. International Olympic Day is much more than a sports event. The goal is  to promote participation in sports across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. It is a day for the world to get active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports.

A mass run marks the Olympic Day celebrations and upholds the fight against terrorism, communal divide, and racism. Olympic Day is a great opportunity to look at the contribution of sport to global social issues that can affect your community, such as education, health promotion, HIV prevention, women’s and girls’ empowerment, environmental protection, peace building and local community development.

It is appreciable that based on the three pillars “move”, “learn” and “discover”, the National Olympic Committees are organising sports, cultural and educational activities. Government should give more priority for the encouragement of sports by allocating more funds.
