SRINAGAR: Opposition members on Monday took PDP-BJP government head on for not increasing the quota in number of J&K Muslims who intend to go for annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Congress G M Saroori said that only 6000 seats have been made available for J&K.
Out of 32000 applications J&K Government received only 6000 are being allowed to proceed to Hajj, Saroori told the house, is it another order from RSS?
Supported by NC, Mubarak Gul asked Speaker to direct the minister concerned to respond to the issue.
Then Dr Manmohan Singh led Union government would allot special quota for J&K but that practice has been withheld, Saroori said asking government to explain the issue.
NCs A M Sagar asked Speaker to make the government answerable over the issue as it was religious matter.
However, the minister was not present and government is yet to answer this issue.
Meanwhile, Congress Shangus Lawmaker, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, asked the government not to do discrimination on political basis in developmental projects.
We were told macadamization of roads will be taken up, so I hope my area will not face discrimination, he told the house.
PDPs Rafiabad Lawmaker sought status report of an SRO case dated 2004. Yawar Mir informed the house that case was pending since 2004 and the victims are yet to be rehabilitated.
Giving details, Mir said one Hafeeza Bano, resident of Ramban was running from pillar to post but her case is pending in secretariat since 2004. She was supposed to get a government job.
