In the aftermath of Pampore attack, CRPF has moved about half-a-dozen of its heavy-armoured mine protected vehicles (MPVs) into the Kashmir Valley, a news gathering agency reported on Monday. The vehicles are being currently used in Naxalite areas of north east.
We have shifted some of our MPVs from Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-hit areas to the Kashmir valley to effectively secure our men during convoy movements and road opening tasks. The MPVs are ready for deployment for operations in Kashmir. If need arises, we could bring in more, CRPF Director General K Durga Prasad told the agency.
He said it is envisaged that the MPVs will provide better protection in case of a militant ambush and firing on the troops, similar to what was seen in Pampore.
CRPF has about 60 battalions in Jammu and Kashmir. Each battalion has about 1,000 personnel.
Govt Reviewing Security Scenario
Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar Monday said the Government is reviewing the entire security scenario to prevent any attack on security forces in future.
The Minister was responding after legislators in Upper House sought Governments response on the recent attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pampore in which eight men lost their lives and 20 others were injured, an official spokesperson said this evening.
The Minister assured that a strategy is being devised to respond to new tactics adopted by militants. He further said that the attack is a condemnable act, saying that everyone including Prime Minister, Union Ministers, and Chief Minister (CM) and Deputy Chief Minister have condemned it.
The Minister further assured the House that the NoKs of the men, who lost their lives and those who got injured in the attack would get compensation as per norms.
