SRINAGAR: A number of functions were held Saturday to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the demise of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic revolution of Iran in several parts of the state.
Biggest function was held at Kashmir University auditorium by Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan, a constituent of the Hurriyat Conference (G).
Hojatul Islam Mehdi Mahdavipur, India representative of supreme jurist Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hossaini Khamenei was the chief guest on the occasion.
Aga Syed Hasan , Justice (Rtd) Bashir Ahmed Kirmani, Maulana Khurshid Ahmed Qanungu, Syed Yousuf Mosavi, Dr Syed Fazalullah Rizvi, Syed Muhammad Hussain, Ghulam Hasan Baba spoke on the occasion.
Several speakers on suggested that a Research Centre should be established in the Kashmir University in the name of Imam Khomeini.
Paying rich tributes to Imam Khomeini, speakers declared him a leader who abolished five thousand year old monarchy and established an Islamic system of government in spite of the opposition of imperialist powers.
In his address Aga Syed Hasan declared Imam Khomeini as the charismatic leader of the century and paid tributes to him. He said that the purpose of the Iranian Revolution and Imam Khomeini was the divine purpose because it was for Islam and religion and Kashmir has to move towards the Iranian revolution when it comes to love and respect, brotherhood and unity would be established on the basis of religious and academic success as well.
To commemorate the anniversary Ittehadul Muslimeen organized an educational conference at Madina Public School, Arampur, Pattan.
Agha Mahdavipur delivered the key note address. Maulana Abbas Ansari, Dr Hyder Raza Zabet, Maulana Syed Taqi Naqvi, Maulana Masroor Ansari and Agha Syed Aijaz Rizvi also spoke on the occasion.
Students of Madina Schools presented various programmes on the occasion.
