NC Targets PDP On Doodh Ganga Land Filling

Srinagar: With no let up in “illegal” land-filling of the Doodh Ganga canal in the Batamaloo locality of south City to “rehabilitate workers of a political party”, the opposition National Conference (NC) Friday woke up to take at dig at the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led coalition.
The NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu took to social media to mock the ruling coalition, particularly its spokesman and Education Minister Naeem Akhter.
 “Filing of the Doodh Ganga Canal in Batamaloo as a result of a meeting where the SMC commissioner was present at the PDP Head Office. The canal is being filled to accommodate PDP workers through land allotment. And then Naeem Akhtar will deliver lectures about encroachments on water bodies and spill channels. Wow!,” Junaid posted on his Facebook page.
Junaid also posted a dozen odd pictures of how ruthlessly, the canal which proved a natural outlet to flood waters during 2014 deluge was being filled and levelled, ruthlessly.
As already reported by Kashmir Observer, the canal is being illegally filled to “rehabilitate workers of particular political party”, while the work is being executed by Srinagar Municipal Corporation(SMC).
The Executive Engineer SMC Shafaat Khan said orders have been issued by the SMC Commissioner Bashir Ahmed Khan, who recently attended a party meeting at the PDP headquarters at Sheikh Bagh.  At the meeting the SMC was told by PDP that the landfilling of the canal be completed without any further delay.
As per the insiders, some of the PDP workers had pulled up SMC Commissioner for his “slow work” on landfilling of the canal and that he would be transferred if the work is not executed within days.
The presence of SMC top brass at the meeting called by PDP leaders and workers at their party head office has already hogged the headlines.
Though the SMC officials said there was no harm in attending meetings at the PDP head office, the opposition National Conference calls it “fall from grace.”
“This is all nothing but regretful that some officials have started behaving like political workers,” Junaid Mattu said.
Meanwhile the Batamaloo residents continued to protest that the ruling coalition was making their locality more flood prone only to please workers of a political party. “This government has dragged this historic City to era where political hooliganism rules the roost and genuine people have no voice in governance,” said a delegation of Batamaloo residents.
