Brother dies while trying to save drowning sister

Sopore: In a tragic incident in North Kashmir’s Sopore town of Baramulla district, a 12-year-old young boy lost his life while trying to save her drowning sister. The death of sibling left whole town in shock. Police along with civil population launched an operation to retrieve the bodies, however, the efforts did not materialize till the filing of this report.
According to the eyewitnesses, 8-year-old girl, Falak Jan, was washing her face at River Jehlum near Jamia Masjid Sopore when she slipped and fell into the river. Her 12 year old brother Rashid Ahmed rowed a shikara to save her drowning sister. Witnesses added that as Rashid tried to catch the hand of her sister, the boat turned turtle as a result the sibling drowned in the Jehlum.
Hundreds of people assembled on either side of the river banks while police, Navy and locals started an operation to look for the sibling. “Our hearts just go out to this poor family who has lost two little children,” said a group of people in the midst of wailing and sobbing.
“I have lost everything. I don’t know what to do. I am finished,” Abdul Majid Sheikh the father of the duo said.
Police have launched a search operation to retrieve the bodies.
