Clashes Break out During Cordon in Pulwama

Share

Pulwama: Violent protests broke out in Gudoora village of Pulwama district after government forces launched a cordon and search operation Wednesday evening following reports of presence of militants there.
Reports said that acting on a tip off of Srinagar Cargo based SOG, army’s 55RR and 182 and 183 battalions of CRPF launched cordon and search operation at Gudoora village at 7:30 pm.
However, sources said, as the search operation began, hundreds of villagers from Gudoora and also from adjoining localities came out of their houses and resorted to intense stone-pelting on forces. The forces in return fired dozens of teargas shells towards residents.
Sources said that the SOG had received an input about the presence of two to four militants in the village and accordingly the operation was launched. An army officer said that the search operation and stone-pelting was underway simultaneously. “So far we couldn’t locate any militant,” he added.
Last month, a militant namely Bilal was killed in an encounter with army at Gudoora village while another had escaped. The situation in the village was extremely tense when reports last came in late in the evening. (GNS)
