Traffic Cop Caught with Punjab Registered Vehicle without Docs

SRINAGAR: PB06L 8530 Surdip Singh May 11, 2016. The cop’s car sans documents, as alleged by Muhammad Mutaher.

This happens only in Kashmir! Cops managing huge Srinagar traffic were caught driving wrong. On Wednesday, a commuter, who was travelling from Old Srinagar to Lal Chowk was stopped by traffic cops at Sangarmal Crossing.

As usual, he was asked to produce the documents of the vehicle he was driving. Muhammad Mutaher, who was driving his friend’s car, didn’t know that the car was not insured.

“I was challaned Rs 500 by the cops led by Inspector Surdeep Singh,” Mutaher told Kashmir Life this afternoon. Mutaher heads Business Section of Mc Donald  India. However, the story got a flip, an interesting one.

“After paying the challaned amount, I asked the inspector if I was in my rights to check the documents of his vehicle,” Mutaher said.

“DTI Singh had parked his Maruti Swift bearing registration number: PB06L 8530 on roadside in which he sitting,” he added.

“The cop responded in affirmative,” Mutaher said, “however, the inspector promptly added that the vehicle didn’t posses the documents!” “It was embarrassing.”

Irked, Mutaher, drove to the SSP Traffic Srinagar office and met SSP Maqsood-Uz-Zaman.

“I narrated the whole incident to SSP Traffic, Srinagar, but it was more humiliating when he out rightly rejected my rights to ask for the documents of the vehicle of the cops who had challaned me,” Mutaher alleged.

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir summer capital is facing a huge crisis in managing traffic given the rush of vehicles post Durbar move.

However, for last many days, after suggestions from various quarters, there has been a phenomenal change in streamlining the movement of vehicles in Srinagar.

Given the closure of Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh stretch, intense jam of traffic was a daily affair but it people have sighed relief for last many days now.

More so, the traffic department, of late, has been pro-active in getting people follow traffic rules. Every day, scores of drivers are being challaned either for not possessing documents or not wearing the helmets. But, today it was other way round.
