SRINAGAR: Reiterating that no Sainik Colony was being set up in the state, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday said that identification of land for Sainik Colony for state subjects was initiated when Omar Abdullah was chief minister.
The issue of Sainik Colony cropped up when Omar Abdullah was chief minister. A meeting was held then, after demands from state subject sainiks, and he had directed officials to identify land for Sainik Colony, Mehbooba said on the sidelines of a function here on Tuesday.
From that time till now, no decision was taken on it, she said.
Mehbooba said no land has been allotted for the Sainik Colony though a meeting was held by the Governor N N Vohra about it.
During a meeting with Governor (I did not attend the meeting as I was not well) he had asked the officials there was no land available in Srinagar and tell army soldiers to find land for Sainik Colony. But no decision was taken on allotting land. And it is a fact, she said.
Mehbooba appealed people not to pay attention to rumours that are being spread on Facebook.
But if there are reports in newspapers, then do call me directly and ask me about the reports, she said.
On NEET, Mehbooba said that Supreme Court had directed to hold a common exam for medical courses but only state subjects can appear in NEET.
On sheds for labours, she said that as per labour laws temporary sheds are to be built for labourers who migrate from one place to another during work.
The chief minister appealed to the youth to support the government in bringing peace to the state and end the period of instability.
Tourist season has started and the tour associations should suggest those who call for hartals that it affects livelihood of people and badly hits economy, she said.
We need peace and I promise you that till I govern the state we will develop it and make it prosperous, she said.
I will try and I have a good team of ministers who are not corruptible. We together will work for peace and development of the state. We need your support, she said.

Sainik Colony issue heats up war between Mehbooba and Omar
Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have locked horns over the issue of establishment of Sainik Colony for the soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir.
While Mehbooba was maintaining that there is no such proposal to set up separate colony for soldiers, Omar Abdullah circulated a document online, purporting to a proposal to allot land for a Sainik Colony. He then tweeted: If you have the guts and truly believe this image (posted online) is fake, file a case against me in the nearest police station today. If you haven’t filed a case against me in the next 24 hours, the people will know who is lying in this matter @mehbooba_mufti. Truth prevails (sic).
Accusing Mehbooba of lying on the issue of establishing a Sainik Colony for ex-servicemen, Omar dared the PDP-BJP ruling dispensation to lodge a police complaint if his proof was a fake.
According to the document, the J&K Rajya Sainik Board (RSB), headed by Governor N N Vohra, held a meeting on April 16 at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu.
The Secretary RSB informs the Board members that Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, had agreed for allotment of 173 kanals of land on payment in the Old Air Field Area (Srinagar) and
the case was taken up with the State Home Department.
However, after obtaining written commitment from the beneficiaries, the number of aspirants increased to 26 officers, 15 JCOs and 900 others requiring a total of 350 kanals of land. Accordingly, a revised proposal has been forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and the State Home Department, it reads.
Mehbooba continues to deny it saying Neither a Chief Minister nor a Prime Minister of the country can dilute the special status of J&K. Omar has been a chief minister himself and knows it, She said.
Mufti accused Abdullah of spreading lies.
But only time will tell who is telling the truth and who is lying. But the issue surely needs to be handled with care before the situation turns out of hand.
