Pampore: Forest land cutting goes on unabated in the Tulbagh Pampore as a section of influential people are carrying out the illegal act posing serious threat to ecological balance and environment.
With apparent nexus with the administration, some unscrupulous and influential individuals are cutting green patches of forest land and selling the soil illegally.
This reporter after visiting the Tulbagh Pampore area found some people busy in dismantling a concrete wall, using tippers and JCBs, cutting forest land and ferrying the soil into the tippers for sale. The irony is that land mafia has been doing it in broad day light in full public glare. Nobody from administration stops them for the reason best known to district police and civil officials, said a respectable citizen.
An allegation of locals is that an organized mafia has been cutting hills illegally but residents of that area remain silent out of fear. Some labourers have cut a huge hill in the area and took the soil for sale on a truck. Before cutting the hills, they dismantled the concrete wall and even didnt spare the trees, claimed the locals.
Locals informed that a group of unscrupulous people from different sections of society including local goons, truck owners, brick kiln owners and even some concerned government officials are working together in the lucrative business of illegal and rampant hill cutting in various parts of the district.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Neeraj Kumar when contacted said that he will initiate stern action against the culprits. Anybody resorting to illegal activities will face the music, he said. (CNS)
