Srinagar: Hundreds of people Wednesday offered funeral prayers in absentia across the Valley for Bangladeshs Jamaat-e-Islami leader Motiur Rahman Nizami, who was executed for alleged crimes committed during the war of independence from Pakistan in 1971.
Socio religious organizations as well as separatist outfits organized funeral prayers in favour of the executed leader in which hundreds of mourners participated.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that hundreds of people assembled in Saraiballa near Iqra Masjid, Old Barzullah, Amira Kadal and Maisuma area of Srinagar and held funeral prayers in absentia for the religious leader.
The funeral prayers organized outside Masjid Hamzah (RA) in Amira Kadal was led by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat senior leader Mehrajuddin Kalwal.
Elsewhere, the funeral prayers were held at Baitul-Mukaram Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara, Duderhama Ganderbal and Muntaki Masjid Awantipora, Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama.
Motiur Rahman Nizami, 72, was hanged after he lost his final appeal against the sentence. Nizami led Bangladesh’s largest Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami. He was the fourth leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami party to have been executed since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina set up a war crimes tribunal to look into abuses during the independence war. (CNS)
Hizb condemns execution of JeI leader
Srinagar: Strongly condemning the hanging of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Motiur Rahman Nizami, militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen chief Syed Salahuddin Wednesday said that Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina Wajid committing crime and state terror to appease India. India in order materialize the dream of creating a Greater India and to have firm control over Kashmir, has been using the services of Hasina Wajid and other paid agents.
As per the statement issued to Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS, Hizb chief said that Bangladesh Prime Minister has been dancing on the tunes of India and has been targeting the eminent Muslim religious leaders by implicating and executing them. Bangladesh has virtually become a colony of India and this development can pose serious threat to the Muslim world particularly Pakistan, he said.
India has virtually turned Kashmir into a prison. Under National Urban Livelihood Mission it is mulling to settle outsiders in Kashmir and is also planning to provide state subject status to West Pakistan refugees. India is trying to create separate settlements for fugitive Pandis and set up Sainik colony in Kashmir to change the Muslim demography in Kashmir. At the same time it is encouraging pro-Indian Bangladesh head Hasina Wajid to inflict torture and miseries upon the religious heads of the country, he said.
He said that since 2009, on the behest of India, Hasin Wajid has started targeting religious leaders and the attacks on them continue till date. Hasina Wajid has Indian backing and there is not an iota of doubt in this fact that independent Bangladesh has lost its identity and is living on the mercy of India. It is high time for the people of Bangladesh to raise their voice against the tyranny of Hasina Wajid, Salahuddin said.
He said that the silence maintained by Human Rights Organizations, International community and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will have serious ramifications. International community and OIC should take note of the Bangaldesh situation and it should stop Hasina Wajid from inflicting torture and crime on Bangladesh people.
Expressing anguish over the attitude of Pakistan, Salahussin said that Pakistan can curb Hasina Wajid under 1972 Agreement but it has failed to do so.
Salahuddin paid rich tribute to executed Jamat-e-Islami leader Motiur Rahman Nizami and said that he was a bold and real Islamic leader who will always in the hearts of people. (CNS)
