SRINAGAR: Its official now. Srinagar city has its first book store and coffee shop- a space where both the brain and braw n can be stimulated.
This first of a kind book store , owned and managed by the famed and famous Gulshan Books was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at Nehru Park .
The store features a 400 sq ft reading room with 1500 titles dedicated to youth of Kashmir. The sheer ambience and setting of the book store cum coffee shop makes it a picture perfect getaway. Any one interested in a relaxing and calm getaway, far from the maddening crowd, will get his or her moneys worth in this island surrounded by the calm and placid waters of the Dal Lake.
The Bookshop is spread over 900 sq feet area and features more than one lac titles ranging from Kashmir history, geography, heritage, travelogues, and Sufism among other topical and thematic books.
After inaugurating the Bookstore, the Chief Minister hoped that the facility would be utilized by visitors who throng the place in large numbers. She was also impressed by the wide variety of books on offer in the store.
Minister for Finance, Culture, Labour & Employment, Dr. Haseeb A. Drabu, several Ministers of State and large number of book lovers were also present on the occasion.
The Gulshan book store is accredited with having first traced, located, subsequently consolidated and published the scattered historical literature or material on Kashmir; making easily available to scholars, intellectuals, academicians as well as the general readers a variety of rare books which were otherwise beyond their reach.
Beginning its journey in 1950s, under the name of Sheikh Mohammad Usman and Sons it was located at Maharaj Gunj Srinagar then considered as the heart of city.
Under the dynamic leadership of proprietor Sheikh Aijaz, Gulshan Books is already running a chain of stores in three commercial zones of the Srinagar city, at Residency Road, Gaw Kadal and at Srinagar airport.
