SRINAGAR: Taking note of the NEET decision by the Supreme Court of India regarding the undergraduate medical and dental entrance exams of Jammu & Kashmir state, chairperson Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani Tuesday said that treating the state of Jammu & Kashmir at par with other states of India does not full fill the parameters of justice and the said court decision has neglected the special status and sensitivity of this state, a statement of the amalgam issued here read.
He said that the state of Jammu & Kashmir has no resemblance with other states of India and this state has its own constitution and law which have been completely ignored in the said court decision.
The honourable judges of the supreme court of India are not unaware about the fact that Jammu & Kashmir is not any UP or Bihar like state of India but its status is totally different and unique. The final solution with regarding to the future of this state is yet pending and this region is in no way any legal part of India.
The octogenarian leader said that the policy makers of India are actually employing different resources and machineries to dilute the disputed nature and special status of Jammu Kashmir and they are working on a set plan in this regard. The NEET decision of the Indian supreme court should be understood in that perspective. The said court verdict looks a politically motivated decision which is directly linked to the status of Jammu & Kashmir.
He said that the Indian Supreme Court decision regarding the NEET also exposes the statement of Mehbooba Mufti that the future of Jammu & Kashmir is secure with India.
The Indian Union wants to harm the interests of the Kashmiri nation in every possible way and this time they have targeted the education and professional career of our children, he said, adding, We will hold consultation with our legal experts with regarding to the Supreme Court decision for NEET and will evolve every such method which will secure the education career and the special status of the Jammu & Kashmir state.
NEET cannot be imposed on JK: DAK
Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today expressed disappointment over Supreme Courts decision turning down a plea of JK government, to hold separate entrance exam for medical courses.
Dismayed by the decision, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that National Eligibility- cum- Entrance Test (NEET) cannot be imposed on JK as the state enjoys special status unlike any other state, by virtue of Article 370 and 35A of constitution of India.
While education was brought in the concurrent list in other states by parliament in late 1970s, it continues to be in the state list in JK.
Only state has exclusive powers in matters of education including the right to conduct examination for admissions in medical courses.
Even the 2010 notification of MCI on NEET which became the basis for holding a single common entrance test across the country was not extended to JK.
In view of special status JK continues to have separate reservation policy for admissions in professional institutions and amendments in article 16 of the constitution of India were not extended to JK.
This is a chilling verdict and an attempt to erode the autonomous character of the state.
The astounding move is an attack on the special status of the state which will have far-reaching implications.
It is a serious issue and we must oppose it as it is dangerous for future of the state.
The Supreme Court has implied on April 28 that all medical exams should be conducted through NEET.
This has created confusion and fear in the minds of students who are in a fix.
