Dear Editor,
This refers to your article Handwara case shows how militarization breeds impunity (KO- May 8).The incident of Handwara is panned out in a manner that was typical of a deep-set conspiracy to bait the Army. Ironically the whole focus of the Indian media, especially electronic, has been to prove the army as being wrongly framed as molesters rather than report on the brutal murders that took place.
A dangerous situation is now unfolding in Kashmir and it appears a deliberate attempt to up the stake. It is the fact that we cannot give up Kashmir and we cannot live with this violence either.
Though loss of human lives saddens one, the response of authorities maintaining law and order is reasonable and should be allowed to curb such irresponsible behavior from spreading further. For Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, its not just a walk in the park. The army is doing a splendid job in controlling the divisive forces in the valley. Sensitive handling by CM can have a positive outcome, but opportunism gets the better of sense in a politically polarized context.
Kashmir cant have normalcy, and for this reason neither can India, until a way is found to have a common narrative, not on the big political questions, but on occurrences which are best described as unconscionable. If people can’t control their temper, how can they expect others to express restraint when their personal security is at risk.
