Srinagar: Claiming that Congress party will not tolerate any erosion in Article 370, the party president for Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Ahmed Mir Monday said that there is ample proof to prove that Mehbooba Mufti led State Government is mulling to set up a Sainik Colony in Kashmir.
Addressing party workers in capital Srinagar during an anti-government protest Mir said there has been the proposed plan to set up a Sainik colony in Srinagar and Budgam.
According to an official document, Mir said that the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, “had agreed to allotment of 173 kanals of land on payment in the Old Airfield Area. But now the Rajya Sainik Board has revised the requisition of land to 350 kanals and “a revised proposal has been forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and State Home Department”.
Mir said that government has adopted double standards with regard to the issue. “One the one hand officials are directed to expedite the process of setting up Sainik Colony while on the other hand, government denies it, thus creating confusion among the people in Kashmir,” he said adding that all efforts are on to implement RSS agenda in the state.
Describing the move as “open aggression,” and “unacceptable”, Mir said that Congress party will protect the provisions and contours of Article 370 and will not allow anyone to erode the special status that Jammu and Kashmir enjoys.
He said ever since PDP-BJP alliance returned to power in April, the peace in Valley has barely held. Several issues have kept the Valley on edge. Beginning with NIT controversy, followed by the killings of five persons in Handwara, some familiar but contentious issues have been a source of recurrent tension. The PDP is trying to doing everything to appease Delhi and Nagpur based masters.
Earlier Congress took out a protest rally from party headquarters here in a bid to gherao civil secretariat.
The protest march  was intercepted by the heavy contingent of police at M.A. Road. The protestors then staged a sit in in the middle of the road.
Mir who was leading the protest said that their protest forced the CM to change the route to reach secretariat on the first day of Durbar.

Indecent’ sloganeering against Mehbooba
Many senior Congress stalwarts Monday expressed resentment after a few leaders of the party and some activists used ‘indecent’ language against late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
As some leaders and activists started raising slogans against late chief minister and his daughter, some senior Congress leaders left the protest march and confined themselves in the party headquarter.
“I resented the words and actions of some leaders and activists who crossed limits of decency and used indecent remarks against Mufti Sahab. We owe lot to him and respect him by heart. I could not tolerate the ‘filthy’ slogans they raised against lady Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. We should feel proud of her for being the lady CM of the state,” said a senior Congress leader said on condition of anonymity.
Another Congress leader said that late Mufti Sahab was not a cheater as was claimed by a Congress man during the protest march. “It was disgusting to watch some activists on behest of a leader chanting indecent slogans against Mehbooba Mufti. Leave politics aside, we must never cross our limits and always respect a personality,” he said.
“At least two former ministers and a couple of senior leaders expressed their resentment over anti-Mufti Sahab remarks,” said a senior party worker. (CNS)
