We don’t have mechanism to check quality of rice: Zulfikar

SRINAGAR: Admitting the state doesn’t have proper laboratories to check and monitor the quality of rice being supplied to the state, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali, Friday, said strict action will be taken against those who violate the rate list issued by the CA&PD.
“I have raised the issue with Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, and once the laboratory is established is the state; there will be a proper monitoring to check the quality of ration,” he said.
Addressing a press conference here, Chowdhary also warned those who resort to black-marketing and profiteering. “We only conduct the visual test of the ration by which we are not able to monitor the quality of the rice properly,” Zulfikar said.
He also admitted that there had been wrong-doings of the ration in the department over the years and said there were many lapses in procuring and distribution of the rice in the previous government.
Over the recent reports that ration had not been distributed among the consumers in several areas, he said there will be a time bound enquiry and action will be taken accordingly.
