Srinagar: Amid strong opposition to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that it would jeopardize the career of students aspiring for medical courses.
Terming its imposition in JK as unfair, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that it would shatter the dreams of hapless students and their hard work and aspirations are under the threat of going down the drain.
After burning the midnight oil for two long and grueling years for state entrance, the students are asked to appear for another unfamiliar exam which has a different curriculum. For students, the new examination system (NEET) means a new syllabus (CBSE) rather than state board syllabus that they have studied for past two years. It is not only the syllabus that is new, but even the pattern of examination is different, he said.
The new ordeal has created a deep sense of insecurity among students who fear that their opportunities to pursue medical studies are gone.
With handicaps in the educational system, our students do not have the same level as students in many parts of the country have and it will be a competition between unequals. While the reservation for female students will be the biggest casualty but other reservations, which are peculiar to JK will also go.
The DAK President said under the current IMC act, which governs the functioning of MCI, its role is limited to finalizing the medical curriculum, while the states can devise their own admission procedures.
Education comes in state list in JK which is not in any other state and it grants the state exclusive powers in matters of education including the right to conduct exams for admissions to medical courses. Also, the decision is against the very spirit and essence of autonomous character of our state. The entire students community is hoping and praying that apex court will consider their plea and JK will be exempted from NEET, he added. (PTK)
