Kangan Shuts, Demands Release of A College Student

RINAGAR: Protests rocked Kangan township of Ganderbal district Friday after police arrested a youth on the charges of stone pelting.

The youth was arrested on Thursday. According to reports received, police party raided a salon shop and arrested Gowhar Ah Rather son of Abdul Rehman Rather of Main Town Kangan in an involvement in a case of stone pelting.

Witnesses said that people came on streets and blocked the Srinagar-Leh highway. 

All the shops and business establishments remained closed and a complete shutdown was observed in the area on the second consecutive day.

SP Ganderbal Imtiyaz Ismail Parray said he was involved in stone pelting and was absconding from last 10 days. “He is also involved in burglary. We are investigating the matter. Presently, Gowhar is in police custody under section 147, 148, 149, 332,307, 336, 427, wide FIR NO 30/2016,” Parray said over phone.
