SRINAGAR: Police Saturday barred Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) from organizing a press conference related to alleged molestation bid by Army in Handwara town of frontier district Kupwara.
Spokesperson JKCCS in a statement to CNS said that police laid siege around their Srinagar based office and prevented family members of the victims of sexual assault of Handwara from speaking to media.
We had organized a press conference at 11 on Saturday. The family members of the sexually assaulted victims were supposed to talk to media, however, a police party led by DySP Fahad Tak laid siege around the JKCCS office and barred journalists from entering into the office, the spokesperson said.
Police informed the staff that Section 144 has been imposed and no movement of people will be allowed. The staff, including Khurram Parvez and others was not being allowed to move out of the office. Deputy Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hasan Bhat informed JKCCS that press conference would lead to law and order issues and to further escalation of violence in the valley.
