Hurriyat (M) leaders detained on the way to Handwara

SRINAGAR:Hurriyat Conference (M) led by Bilal Gani Lone was stopped by police from visiting Handwara to express sympathies with the bereaved families of the four persons killed in firing by government forces. The leaders were detained at Patukkha police post.
The party in a statement issued here termed this action of the government as aggressive and undemocratic. The amalgam chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house confinement for the past three days, said the suppression and aggression against the people striving for their just rights was being deliberately done to cow down them into submission.
He said after the bloodshed in Handwara, people were being confined to their homes by imposing severe restrictions and curfew and practically entire Valley of Kashmir has been converted into a massive jail.
The Mirwaiz said after killing four unarmed innocent people in Handwara and Kupwara, government forces were terrorizing the entire population of the area and also other parts of the Kashmir valley in particular the old city of Srinagar with the use of brutal force and imposition of curfew besides banning internet services.
He said the government has confined most of the resistance leaders in their homes and thus prevented them from reaching out to the people in this hour of grief and suffering.
Mirwaiz further said that on the one hand, people in Kashmir had been left at the mercy of the government forces, while on the other hand Kashmiri students studying in different states of India and Kashmiri traders carrying out their business there were harassed and subjected to incidents of violence, thus damaging their educational career and business prospects.
Stressing that in Kashmir and outside the Valley, Kashmiris were being subjected to aggression and cruelty under a well devised policy to stop them from striving for their just rights, the Mirwaiz said there was a need to fight this aggression by coming up with a comprehensive strategy and well planned peaceful protest demonstrations.
Appealing the people of Kashmir to stage peaceful protests following Friday congregational prayers, the Mirwaiz called upon the Imams and Khatabees to guide and lead protest demonstrations from their respective areas to protest against the atrocities on the people of Kashmir.
He said that he would personally lead a protest rally in Nowhatta Srinagar after the Friday congregational prayers against the civilian killings of Handwara and Kupwara. (PTK)
