Mirwaiz calls for Friday protests

Share

Srinagar: Terming the killing of three persons including a woman in the firing by government forces in Handwara on Tuesday and one more person in Drugmula Kupwara on Wednesday as the worst form of state-sponsored terrorism, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday said atrocities carried by government forces and the brutal force used to deal with the protestors under the grab of  black laws like AFSPA clearly proves the intentions of the government of India and the rulers of Kashmir towards the people of Kashmir.

Expressing sympathy and his heart-felt condolences with the families of the youth and woman killed in the firing by government forces, the Mirwaiz, who has been placed under house arrest since Monday afternoon, said the tactics of oppression and suppression cannot weaken the resolve of the people for their just cause and their desire for freedom that they have been striving for.

Reacting to the statement of the Indian Minster for Finance, Arun Jaitley in which he has called for cracking down on the resistance leadership of Kashmir, Mirwaiz termed it as a reflection of an extremist mind.

Mirwaiz said that such statements become a source of encouragement for the government forces deployed on ground in Kashmir to carry worst atrocities against the people of Kashmir.

He said, it appears that these intentions have already started taking practical shape that could be seen in the killing of the unarmed civilians in the past two days. “People of Kashmir and the resistance leadership, who have been striving for their rights for the past several decades, cannot be silenced by oppressive tactics and brutal force,” he said.

Stressing that Kashmir is an internationally accepted dispute, the Mirwaiz called upon the Indian leadership to realize the basic reality that  issues like Kashmir cannot be dealt with extremist and oppressive measures but by showing flexibility and moving forward in a sensible manner.

Mirwaiz has appealed the people of Kashmir to hold protest demonstrations on Friday (April 15) to protest against killings in North Kashmir and has called Imams, Khatabees to guide and lead these protests. He said that he will personally lead a protest rally in Nowhatta Srinagar after the Friday congregational prayers against the civilian killings of north Kashmir.  (PTK)
