Journalists en route Handwara beaten by police

 Three journalists were beaten ruthlessly by security forces in Langate, after they had gone to cover the ongoing protests in Handwara, reports said.

According to sources, a police party led by DySP Rameez Ahmad has beaten three working journalists, Asim Shah of Kashmir Reader, Adnan Ahmad of CNS, and Waseem Ahmad of Uddan, in Langate when they were on their professional duties.

One of the reporter said that, scores of journalists were detained in Langate area today. “We showed them our press identity cards and requested to allow us to cover the protests, but in response we were beaten.”

“It is a direct attack on the fourth pillar of democracy, when newsmen were not spared, how is it possible that common masses can be safe, said Gulzar Ahmed another journalist.

“We want the concerned authorities to take strict action against the accused police official, he said.
