SRINAGAR: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri Tuesday directed the R&B Department to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for year 2016-17 by 15 May, 2016 so that the work on new projects can be started immediately.
The Minister said this while chairing an officers meeting to review functioning of R&B Department in Kashmir here today.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, R&B, Rohit Kansal, Chief Engineer R&B, Satish Razdan and other officers of the department.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister impressed upon the concerned officers to begin work on all projects funded by state and central government with Zest and zeal.
Veeri directed the officers to speed up the ongoing work on construction of Circular Roads in Anantnag and Pulwama districts, while stressing that these projects must be completed on time to avoid cost overruns. He ordered that the issues related to land acquisition on these two roads must be settled in ten days.
The Minister said the recommendations for building roads and bridges should be classified under state government and centrally sponsored schemes so that any bottlenecks, like land acquisition, can be removed at the earliest.
Veeri said the state government will provide opportunity to every contractor so that a high bar of performance is set and new projects are conceptualized properly. He stressed on accountability in the works and added that the state government will work to fulfill the vision of late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Earlier, the officials briefed the Minister about the functioning of the department which maintains 14597 km of roads in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Engineer Satish Razdan told the Minister that a number of new roads have been recommended for identification as state highways. It was given out that nearly 4000 km of road length was damaged during September 2014 floods out of which 1400 km were resurfaced last year.
He said the department has realized revenue of Rs 771 crore last year against the target of Rs 430 crore, besides the projected revenue for rented out buildings was Rs 50 crore but Rs 75.47 crore was realized.
