JAMMU: Minister of State for Transport, Science and Technology, Sunil Kumar Sharma Monday said the government is contemplating to add 1000 new buses to the present fleet of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) for giving new vigor to the Corporation.
The Minister said this during his inspection of Regional Headquarters (RHQ) SRTC at Rail Head today
Secretary Transport, R K Bhagat and Transport Commissioner, Parvez Ahmad Khateeb accompanied the Minister during his visit.
The Minister visited various units of the office and took stock of the functioning of the corporation. He also convened a meeting with the officers and employees and sought their suggestion for streamlining the functioning of the Corporation.
Managing Director, SRTC, G. A . Sofi, informed the Minister that the Corporation realized a revenue of Rs 100 crore during last financial year. It was also informed that the Corporation has purchased 2 Volvo Bus costing Rs 1 crore each to facilitate LoC transport services from Srinagar to Kaman Post (Uri) and Jammu to Chakan-de-Bagh (Poonch).
Mr Sharma also visited Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), and inquired about the facilities provided to the passengers He directed MD SRTC to take adequate steps for upgrading facilities like installation of fans and availability of drinking water etc. at the terminal.
During the inspection of workshop (PMD) at Narwal, the Minister interacted with the employees of the department. He asked them to work with utmost dedication for making the Corporation profitable and assured them that adequate steps will be taken to provide conducive work environment and redress their grievances on priority.
