JALANDHAR: A Kashmiri businessman was found murdered on Saturday in Shahkot area of Jalandhar in Punjab.
Maqsood Ahmad Shah (27) son of Mohammad Dilawar Shah, a resident of Thandipora Kralpora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district had gone missing on April 2.
Maqsood was doing shawl business in Shahkot area of Punjab province and was there since November, Shah Zaman, younger brother of Shah Maqsood told news agency GNS over phone.
Maqsood would call family every day but April 2 he didnt. His family called him over phone next day but despite repeated calls there was no response, he said.
In the meantime, the family came to know that their son was missing and some family members including his brother Shah Zaman rushed to Shahkot. Soon after they reached there, they filed a written missing report.
Today in the morning, some locals found a body lying in a dam (Chappri) at village Parjian Kalan in jurisdiction of Mehatpur police station and informed the police about it. The cops immediately reached the spot and recovered the body with visible torture marks on it, he said.
Zaman said the family is taking the body of the deceased to the native village in frontier Kupwara district from Shahkote.
There is no one here to help us. Our government too has not made any arrangements for the body to flown to Kashmir from there, he said.
When contacted SSP Rural, Harmohan Singh told Srinagar based news agency GNS that they have received a complaint on April 4 regarding the missing of the businessman and the investigations have been launched immediately.
“Today the body of the Kashmiri businessman was recovered from a dam in the jurisdiction of Shahkot police station”, a top police officer said
He said that the victims legs were tied and he has been apparently strangulated. A wire was also found tied in his neck, he said.
A case FIR No 48 u/s 302, 201 IPC has been registered and further investigations has been launched, he said.
The SSP assured that culprits will be arrested soon and strict action will be initiated against those behind the murder
