Share

Jammu:  Few districts of Jammu region including Jammu Thursday observed a shutdown to protest over alleged police high-handedness on outstation students at NIT in Srinagar.

The call for shutdown was given by various groups, including Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF), Sri Ram Sena and various student organizations.

Majority of the shops and business establishments remained shut while the Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) suspended work in all the courts across the region. The lawyers also held a protest outside the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, demanding action against the police officials for allegedly manhandling the outstation students of the institute. Several student organizations took to the streets and blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway at Bikram Chowk. Police force had been deployed in large number to maintain law and order in the region.
