Thousands participate in slain militants funeral procession

Pulwama: Thousands of people on Wednesday participated in the funeral of slain Hizb militant Bilal Ahmad Bhat at his ancestral Karimabad village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

 Witnesses said that women assembled atop shacks and houses to catch the last glimpse of Bhat who died in a gunbattle with police and army in Gudoora village – 500 metres away from his home.

They said Bhat was laid to rest amid pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans.

 Sources told CNS that three back to back funeral prayers were held in favour of the slain militants. Sources added that a group of four militants head by one Tariq Ahmed Pandit appeared in slain militants house and fire some shots in air in honour of Bilal Ahmed Bhat.

  A police official said that situation in the district remained peaceful throughout the day. He however added that some youth resorted to stone-pelting in Newa area while another group of youth pelted stones on a police party near Degree College Pulwama.

    Meanwhile, reports said that government forces killed an unidentified militant in forest area of Dardepora in Lolab, some 28 kms from Kupwara. The Government forces had cordoned off the area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants. Sources said that during the wee hours a militant was killed whose identity has not been ascertained yet. “The search operation is going on to track down hiding militants,” said an official.  (CNS)
