Srinagar: A delegation of Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK) led by its vice president Dr Mir Iqbal called on Health and Medical Education Minister Bali Bhagat yesterday at his residence in Jammu and demanded immediate reinstatement of President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan who was suspended by previous government.
The delegation expressed displeasure over continued suspension ofDAK President who was suspended for raising voice against spurious drug perpetrators.
He was working as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in SMHS hospital and his suspension has given untold sufferings to patients who were under his treatment and follow up, DAK said.
Terming private practice by government doctors particularly in teaching hospitals as the root cause of health care mess, the delegation demanded immediate ban on it.
DAK informed Minister that influential doctors, in brazen violation oftransfer policy, remain posted at their places of choice for decades.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed serious concern over unabated influx of spurious drugs in JK.
The market is unregulated and unchecked and no serious efforts are made to curb the menace.
DAK stressed on speedy implementation of drug policy to ensure the availability of free and quality drugs to poor patients in government hospitals. The delegation reiterated that the post of principal GMC should be advertised which would bring transparency and openness in the selection process and would open doors for deserving and meritorious candidates who otherwise are not even considered.
The minister gave patient hearing and said that health care is top priority for the government and assured the delegation that all the demands will be redressed. (PTK)
