Rs 48.37 lakh sanctioned under SMAS in the district-DC Anantnag

ANANTNAG:The District Level Sanctioning Committee, which met here under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mr. Muneer ul Islam disbursed monetary assistance of  Rs. 48.37 lakh under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) in favour of 129 identified girl beneficiaries in the district.

The DDC said the SMAS would not only cater to the much needed financial security to a large population of identified unmarried poor girls but it will help create a sense of satisfaction among the parents having prejudiced view of the girl child in the district, which is having dismally low sex ratio.

The SMAS is aimed to provide financial assistance to those unmarried identified girls of the district living below poverty line, who may not find themselves in a position to marry due to financial constraints.

The meeting was attended by DPO Anantnag, DSWO, AD Planning from Education Department, besides others.
