SRINAGAR: Army on Friday said that they are apprehending increase in infiltration attempts in days to come but stressed that it was ready to foil the attempts.
Armys 15 cores Commander Lt General Satish Dua claimed that there were nearly 200 militants active in valley but said their morale was down as they face tremendous pressure from the armed forces.
General Dua made the assertions in Baramulla, where he inaugurated the Skill development Centre Chinar 9 Youth Club in the premises of brigade headquarters of 19 infantry division.
Dua said the centre would open new avenues for the local youth besides providing platform for fun and learning.
He said 70 such clubs would be set up by army in various areas of the valley with an intention to provide opportunities for up gradation of skills to local boys and girls.
He said computer trainings, fashion designing, counseling for online applications and preparations for competitive exams and other such trades are the main attraction of the institute besides gymnasium, martial art and library facilities.
Later talking to media, Dua said that some people are disturbing peace. Army was in length and breadth of valley therefore they needed the space for arms drills and other facilities therefore firing ranges are must for them, he said.
He said that Tosa Maidan was vacated because army respected the locals needs but said army also needs the firing range.
He added that civil administration was looking for a suitable place in all the three regions of the state.
He said wherever the army has land under its occupation it is paying rent. But said if there was anything pending that must be due to the technicality of the revenue papers which was the domain of the civil administration.
He also said that army would wish all those youth who are indulging in stone pelting or taking up arms to shun the path and said the children are the leader of tomorrow and are our future.
