Another rainy weekend predicted for Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir are all set to witness rainy weekend with higher reaches likely to record snowfall as well.

Rain activity may play a spoilsport as famous tourist destinations such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg are likely start receiving rain and thundershowers Friday evening onwards.

With these rains, threat of natural calamities in terms of landslides and avalanche has also made a comeback over the region.

A fresh Western Disturbance is approaching hilly region of North India and is presently marked over North Pakistan and adjoining areas.

The system will initially give weather over Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, while, Himachal Pradesh will only have isolated weather activity tomorrow.

Intensity and spread of rain are likely to increase from Saturday covering both the states. However, weather activity over Uttarakhand will be confined to light only.

According to Skymet Weather, the system is active in nature and thus we can expect the wet spell to continue for at least four days.

During this, fairly widespread light to moderate rains are likely to lash hilly region till April 4. Few place might record some heavy showers as well. Thereafter, the Western Disturbance will clear away the region leading to significant increase in the region.

In wake of this activity, day temperatures will also register significant dip by 8-10 degrees. This will lead to cool day conditions over several parts of the states.

At present, a Western Disturbance is also moving across Jammu and Kashmir. But being feeble in nature, it has not given any weather over the region and day maximums continue to settle well above the normal average temperatures.
