Some days ago my eye caught a view of an article on internet that a Harvard Pass out is teaching Sciences at a primary School in United States. First even I did not believe it but after skimming it thoroughly I was astounded to know that the individual was a pass out from Harvard University in Biological Sciences and was teaching with utmost dedication at a Primary school in US. A person who has passed out from one of the worlds best universities can see his career reach the sky high level in his particular area of interest but see the dedication towards contribution to society by teaching at a primary school.
I do not know the amount of salary he or she was getting from the particular school but here we need to ponder upon the mindset and thinking of an individual from worlds most developed and advanced nation. I am sure the person would never be interested in the zeros ending in his or her salary figures. This type of mindset has made them reach the top because it is the people who make the nations. Now compare this with the system prevailing in this part of the world. It is absolute reverse of the one discussed above. Not taking pains in teaching which is the basic and first thing they have to do.
Striving for the salary amounts, trying to politically influence their heads for the transfer which is convenient to them and actively taking part in strikes and protests and waiting for the pay commissions which increase the number of zeros in the salary figures. After taking into view the recent suspension of the whole staff from a school in Srinagar by the director school education, the concerned teachers need to deeply think and ponder how their conscience allowed them to just sit and not do the job for which they are paid hefty amounts. One should not be surprised by the consequence of the same that the student is not able to write twenty five divided by four, leave aside solving it.
This is the condition of our children who are studying in government funded primary institutions. Now who is to be blamed here? Obviously the teachers are wholly and solely responsible for it. Yes there must be certain barriers to the teaching but that need to be minimized and it is the teachers who have to do it. Obviously there are many dedicated teachers in the same department and I myself am witness to some. But the shameful, yes I call it shameful act done by the teachers brings careers of lot of budding students to end who definitely have potential to blossom but unfortunately our teachers are not able to understand this. Teachers particularly those teaching in Government schools need to wake up from the deep slumber they are in and take their role seriously.
