Over 11,000 defunct streetlights restored

Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Saturday reviewed the process of restoration of defunct streetlights in different parts of Srinagar.

Dr Samoon said that during the last 10 months over 11,000 defunct streetlights have been restored in different parts of Srinagar city. Giving the details , the Divisional Commissioner said ,2894 defunct streetlights were restored in Amira Kadal area , 1836 in Hazratbal, 1252 in Sonawar, 840 in Eidgah, 489 in Habba Kadal, 1300 in Batmaloo, 1332 in Zadibal and 1417 in Khanyar. 

He said 4400 150W sodium vapour lamp streetlights were installed during 2012-2013, 1297 60W LED streetlights were installed in 2014-2015 and 959 45W streetlights were installed during current year upto January.

Dr Samoon said that  Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has switched over to efficient and long-lasting streetlights like LED which don’t require regular maintenance and SMC will replace all existing conventional type  streetlights with LEDs in a phased manner.
