No KCC loan was waived off, farmers left in lurch: Salman Sagar

Srinagar: Youth National Conference Provincial Chief, Salman Ali Sagar Friday flayed the state government over ignoring the farmers whose lands were devastated during the catastrophic floods of 2014.

Salman, in a statement issued to KNS said that the government last year on March 27 announced that the KCC loans of the farmers will be waived off but as one year has passed since that announcement, no relief was accorded to the flood wrecked farmers of Kashmir. He said that government’s announcement remained limited o mere lip service and on ground, the banks continue to coerce the affected farmers to pay the loan.

YNC chief maintained that even the guarantors aren’t being spared by the banks and those who fail to repay the loan, the guarantors are fleeced. He said such an anarchic approach is condemnable and merits highest concern.

Salman said that despite the farmer community bearing the worst ever brunt of nature’s fury, government’s approach to such an important issue is ‘callous and worrisome’. He said the PDP amid much fanfare announced last year in budget that the KCC loans would be waived off to the flood hit farmers but the order was never implemented on ground. Salman said that such a situation reflects the crises in which Kashmir has been reeling since the day PDP-BJP joined hands.
