A mosque, which is ideally meant for worship, has just become a structural institution where one worshipper is against the worshipping of other worshippers under the influence of various Maslaks which people are using as excuses to support their personal ethics and objectives.
Under this realm, separate mosques under tag names likeHanafi masjid, Salafi Masjid, Hambli Masjid, Shafi Masjid etc. are built to create discord between the believers of a single faith called Islam.
Kashmir, which is known as pirvaeer, has lost its essence. We have become ethically unpredictable and selfish. We have made our simple and easy religion complex. Our Imams are not meant to divide us on the basis of religion but enlighten and guide us.
A clear divide is visible today. A follower of Hanafi maslak doesnt go to a Salafi mosque to offer prayers and vice versa. Though a mosque is Allahs home where everybody is welcome, some worshippers are using their version of religion to claim their superiority in comparison to others.
The tafreek created through sects is haraam in Islam. The Glorious Quran says, As for those who divide the religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least; their affair is with Allah:He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did. [Al-Quran 6:159].In this verse Allah (SWT) says that one should disassociate oneself from those who divide their religion and break it into sects. But we act as Sunnis, Shias, Hanafis, Shafis, Malikis, Humbalis, Deobandis, Barelvis and so many more, says Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami.
We must respect all the great scholars of Islam including the four Imams; Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafi, Imam Humbal and Imam Malik (May Allah be pleased with them all). They were great scholars and may Allah reward them for their research and hard work. One can have no objection if someone agrees more with the views and research of Imam Abu Hanifa or Imam Shafi or any other Imam. But when posed with the question Who are you?, a believers reply should always be, I am a Muslim, he adds.
It is a fact that Muslims today are divided amongst themselves. The tragedy is that such divisions are not endorsed by Islam at all. Islam believes in fostering unity amongst its followers. Our thinking has become corrupt by our selfish designs and we have created sects based on our own perceptions of faith, said Mufti Abdul Rasheed.
Some may justify this by quoting hadith number 459 from Sunan Abu Dawood. In this hadith, the Prophet (pbuh) is reported to have said, “My community will be split up into seventy-three sects.”This hadith only reports that the Prophet (pbuh) predicted the emergence of seventy-three sects. He did not say that Muslims should be active in dividing themselves into these sects. The glorious Quran commands us not to create any sects. Those who follow the teachings of the Quran and Sahih Hadith and do not create sects are the people who are on the true path, he added further.
What we need to ask ourselves is whythere are several sects to begin with? What sets them apart? If all worship God alone and uphold God’s words, shouldn’t we be united? What sets these different sects apart is their different interpretation of the same belief. For example, traditional Muslims follow a multitude of Hadith and Sunna besides the Quran. In addition to that, some writings of various scholars and religious leaders that go against God’s words are also followed, said Moulana Noor Mohammad Trali.
