Pahalgam PIL benefitting influential people

PAHALGAM: A PIL (Public Interest Litigation ) which aimed to stop the rapid growth of constructions in Pahalgam  is benefiting influential people who have good relations with higher authorities.

The PIL which was filed by Peoples Welfare Organization Pahalgam with the full support of local residents to stop the construction works has totally changed its aim for what it was formed. The influential people are making constructions at their will under the nose of concerned authorities. They openly float the High Court order that has put a blanket ban on construction works in Pahalgam.

The picturesque Pahalgam valley is a major tourist attraction and is having a lush green forest land that covers this whole area. The rich and influential people from the different areas of the state have started to construct hotels and restaurants due to their political approach.

The local residents allege that the concerned authorities don’t allow them to repair their damaged houses citing High Court order which puts blanket ban on construction works in Pahalgam, but they don’t stop rich and influential people from constructing hotels and restaurants.

“On one hand the concerned authorities doesn’t allow the local residents to even repair their residential houses, but at the same time they don’t hesitate in facilitating the illegal activities of influential people who are destroying Pahalgam. There is no action taken against such people who openly violate  High Court orders, ” said Reyaz Ahmad ,a local resident.

The locals also blame Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) for this, as according to them, they also favor influential people in construction works and ignore the pleas of poor who need to repair their damaged houses.

“The PIL was filed keeping in view the sensitivity of the local ecology and environment in order to check the construction works in Pahalgam and ensuring to preserve its beauty by not letting huge construction works in this green belt. But the rich and influential people with the support of concerned authorities are changing the topography of Pahalgam,” said Rayees Ahmad Lone, another local resident .

The locals have appealed the higher authorities to look into this issue and allow them to construct and repair their residential houses.
