Budgam: Police on Thursday obtained five days remand of senior separatist leader Masarat Aalam from Budgam court in a case related to waving of Pakistani flags during a rally last year.
Last year Masrat Aalam was released in March after spending four years in jail, triggering a political row in the state. The then ruling Peoples Democratic Party under pressure from ally BJP and the Central government re-arrested him on April 17 last year on charges of sedition and waging war against the state. He had on April 15 allegedly raised pro-Pakistan slogans at a rally organized to welcome Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Srinagar where Pakistani flags were also hoisted.
Shortly after obtaining remand, police shifted him to Baramulla JailMeanwhile, Police slapped Public Safety Act on Masrat Aalams colleague and senior Muslim League leader Molvi Sajad. A party spokesman told CNS that Molvi Sajad of Hajin Bandipora was arrested by police last month and on Thursday police shifted him to Udhampur Jail under draconian Public Safety Act. (CNS)
